National Geographic Traveler - April 2008.
The "Stay List" 150 Hotels You'll Love! - Check in Now!
With location-inspired architecture, ambience, and amenities * eco-stewardship * an ethic of giving back to the community.
Sense of place... With the cadence of a lullaby, these three words neatly sum up the properties celebrated here. To travel well, we believe, is to soak up authenticity. And where we spend the night is part of the picture. Does the hotel incorporateÑand shareÑthe soul of its location? Are resources respected and conserved? When possible, is the food put on the table local? Does the property play a vital role in the community, sharing some of its profits with local causes, for example?
These criteria grow out of our mission. The true Traveler experience doesn't stop at the hotel lobby. Rather, it can (and should) be reinforced and enhanced there.
To assemble this list, we put out a call for hotel nominations to people far and wide, from local travel experts to seasoned travelers. We detailed our criteria and asked them to recommend hotels and inns that fit the bill. After sending out in-depth questionnaires to the more than 600 properties nominatedÑand conducting further research- National Geographic Traveler arrived at a 150 properties listed in the United States (East, Central, and West regions), Canada, Mexico, and Caribbean region. Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge has been chosen as one ofthe 150!
Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge - German-infused Adirondack lodge run by a local couple. Originally opened in 1886 by a great aunt and uncle as post office. For today's travelers: handcrafted Wein & Bier Keller; simmering stockpots of sauerbraten. Fireplaces, jetted tubs, hydrotherapy steam showers. On 25 acres (ten hectares) in St. Regis wilderness area.

Adirondack Alternatives: The Daily News - July 2007. ...with a little searching, you can find a spot where it's quiet enough to hear the breeze blow,
and dark enough at night to see all the stars. Where you can also still
get a great meal...paddle a
canoe and hear loons call, hike a trail to a scenic view, bike along a
quiet byway, visit a gallery or museum, or curl up on a cozy couch in
front of the fireplace with a good book on a rainy day. Here are four delightfully quirky places off the beaten path -
sometimes way off - that each offer its own version of an idyllic

The Forbes Report: Further Tails From The North Country - By Victor Bennett Forbes, Editor-in-Chief
"On the way to Montreal. We had the pleasure of staying at another wondrous place, The Lodge on Lake Clear. Whether your accommodations are one of the lovely rooms in the main house, The Lake House or one of the Chalets, you will be in heaven for the duration. Located a few minutes past Saranac Lake about an hour and a half from Montreal and less than half an hour from Lake Placid, the Lodge offers you the opportunity to do everything or nothing. Perfect for writing or painting retreats, hiking the tall peaks (Mt. Marcy, New York's tallest is a short drive), snowmobiling, canoeing, touring- the outside activities are matched by the incomparable cuisine cooked up by Cathy Hohmeyer from traditional old world family recipes. They really know how to keep the home fires burning up there."
