Adirondack Alps' cuisine served with family pride at Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge
Awarded #1 Restaurant in Northern New York

(Lake Clear N.Y.) Hohmeyer's Lodge on Lake Clear has been awarded by the Watertown Times as the #1 restaurant in 2007. The article published by the Watertown Times food critic Walter Siebel in his Food for Thought column gave Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge his highest rating of 5 Forks: Fabulous - Don't miss it. The article, in the Sunday Watertown Times Diversions section was entitled "A Year of Great Eating: 2007's Top 10, Plus One"

Hohmeyer's also received the highest honor of Five Forks: Fabulous - Don't miss it! "It is quite an honor for us", remarked Cathy Hohmeyer, Owner/Chef of Hohmeyer's Lodge on Lake Clear. "Mr. Siebel is a well known and respected food critic and for us to be recognized as #1 as well as gain his highest rating of 5 Forks is an immeasurable accomplishment - especially considering the large and diverse area of Northern New York that he covers".

Hohmeyer's Lodge on Lake Clear is one of the last original Adirondack lodges still open to the public. Built in 1886 by Cathy (Fisher-Otis) Hohmeyer's family as a lodge, trading post and post office, the Lake Clear Lodge was later sold to the Jarvis family. The Hohmeyer family later acquired the Lodge and has been operating the facility for the last 42 years.

Cathy does the cooking, and came from the kitchen to greet us. She invited us to put our coats on one of the couches and head downstairs to the rathskeller where her husband would prepare drinks and explain the evening's menu.

Under Cathy and Ernest Hohmeyer's ownership the Lodge has been restored to a 4-season destination retreat and resort with an emphasis on green initiatives and an innovative 100-mile local cuisine. "We have made an earnest effort to evolve our cuisine as a fusion of Ernest's families Old World origins and my families Adirondack pioneering roots and to do so in a natural and holistic manner. We are grateful that these efforts are being recognized and are appreciative of the support we have received from our staff, the community and our tourism marketing partners - without whom we could not have achieved this honor" Hohmeyer concluded.

In 2007, Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge was also recognized in the Sunday New York Daily News as a recommended destination "Off the Beaten Path" as well as Hotel Interactive for its green initiatives and the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire.

Ernest came from behind the bar to enumerate the evening's choices: Adirondack hunter's stroganoff, crisp roast duckling ("Dad's recipe"), lightly smoked Cornish game hen "from our smoker out back," roast pork loin ("bone in - Cathy hand-cuts all the meats"), hand-pounded chicken schnitzel and, of course, sauerbraten ("Cathy marinates bottom round beef with vegetables, herbs and spices for 72 hours. It's her 'Adirondack Alps' version of this classic old-world dish").

The newest generation of Hohmeyers is now keeping the torch burning in this special place in the Adirondacks.
